On July 30, 2025, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice announced lockdowns and comprehensive searches affecting higher-custody inmates at 19 prison units. The agency said the operation followed a rise in dangerous contraband and drug-related violence.
The units identified by TDCJ were Allred, Beto, Coffield, Connally, Eastham, Ferguson, Hughes, Huntsville, Lewis, McConnell, Michael, Polunsky, Robertson, Stiles, Telford, Terrell, Wainwright, Wallace Pack and Wynne.
During a lockdown, normal movement and programming can be restricted while officers search housing areas and other parts of a facility. TDCJ advised families to check the agency’s unit-lockdown page for the current status of visitation and individual facilities. Because this was a time-limited July 2025 operation, readers should not assume that these units remain locked down today.

Accountability.
