Find Someone in the Jefferson County Jail
The Sheriff’s Office runs a public online Inmate Search. It is the fastest way to confirm that someone is in custody in Jefferson County.
How to search
Type the person’s name into the search box. Each record shows the Arrest ID, booking date and time, the arresting agency, and the charges with the degree code and bond amount. The Sheriff’s Office also posts a current Inmate Log and a Daily Inmate Log (recent arrests) as PDFs.
A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.
What you may need
- The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
- Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
- Their booking / ID number. You must put it on all mail and use it for deposits.
Confirm the identity
Before you send money or mail, match the full name and date of birth on the record to the person you are looking for. Do not rely on the name alone.
Booking information and charges
The inmate search shows the charges, degree code, and bond amount. For court dates and case status, check Jefferson County court records. An arrest is not a conviction.
Visitation Information
All visits must be scheduled before the day of the visit — call Visitation at (409) 726-2565 to make an appointment. Each inmate is allowed two 30-minute visits per week.
Days and hours
Visitation runs Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The jail is closed for visitation on Monday and Tuesday. The day you visit and the building you use (North or South Visitation Building) depend on the person’s housing area:
- Wednesday: Q side / FB (North); Maximum Security / FA (South)
- Thursday: General Population / Youths (North); Females (South)
- Friday: Maximum Security / FA (North); P side (South)
- Saturday: Females (North); General Population / Youths (South)
- Sunday: P side Dorms (North); Q side / FB (South)
Rules
- Only a photo ID, keys, and cash or a credit card for the kiosk may be brought into the building. Cell phones and smart devices are not allowed.
- You must stay in the Visitation Building from the time you arrive until the visit is finished, or the visit is ended.
- The deposit kiosk is open Wednesday–Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Video visits from home
Through Smart Communications you can also do a remote video visit from home — $0.20 per minute, booked in 15- or 30-minute blocks. On-site video visits at the facility are free.
Schedules and fees can change. Confirm the current schedule with Visitation at (409) 726-2565 before you travel.
