Section 2

Find Someone in the San Jacinto County Jail

San Jacinto County does not publish an official online jail roster. The Sheriff’s page points families to the state’s Integrated Victim Services System (IVSS) to check custody status. You can also use VINELink.

How to search

Search by the person’s name. On VINELink, choose Texas, search by name, and register for a free alert if their custody status changes. New bookings can take several hours to appear. The fastest way to confirm someone is in the jail is to call (936) 653-4367 with their full legal name and date of birth.

A name and date of birth are all you need to look someone up. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information.

What you may need

  • The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
  • Their date of birth.
  • Their SO# (Sheriff’s Office booking number) — you need it to send mail (see Section 6). Ask the jail if you do not have it.

Charges, bond, and court dates

Call the jail at (936) 653-4367 for charges and bond amounts. Court records are kept by the San Jacinto County District Clerk (felonies) and County Clerk (misdemeanors) at the courthouse, 1 State Hwy 150, Coldspring. An arrest is not a conviction.

Section 3

Visitation Information

San Jacinto County does not post visitation rules online. Public jail directories list video visits through NCIC Inmate Communications, the same company that handles the jail’s messaging and mail, and say on-site visits are arranged with detention staff. Directories disagree on visiting hours. Call (936) 653-4367 to confirm the current schedule and how to book a visit before you go.

Before you visit

  • Bring a valid government-issued photo ID.
  • Dress conservatively. The jail can turn away a visitor for inappropriate dress.
  • Leave phones and bags in your vehicle unless the jail tells you otherwise.

Video visits

Set up an account at NCIC, select San Jacinto County, find the person, and choose a date and time. Visits are recorded and monitored.

Section 4

Commissary and Money Deposits

Money for commissary (snacks, hygiene items, writing supplies) goes into the person’s jail account. San Jacinto County does not post its deposit options online. Call the jail at (936) 653-4367 and ask how to add money — online, by kiosk, or by money order — before sending anything.

What you will need

The person’s full name and their SO# (booking number).

Never mail cash. Deposit fees and spending limits are set by the jail and its providers and can change. The Sheriff’s Office will never call to demand payment by phone, card, or gift card — treat any such demand as a scam.

Section 5

Telephone Calls, Messaging, and Communication

The San Jacinto County Jail uses NCIC Inmate Communications. People in the jail make outgoing calls; to receive them, set up and fund an account with NCIC.

Electronic messages

According to the notice posted on the Sheriff’s page, families can send electronic messages through an NCIC account: about $0.25 per message and $0.35 per picture or document, delivered instantly to the kiosk in the person’s cell, with no limit on how many you send. This is faster and cheaper than mailing a letter.

Calls and messages are recorded and monitored, except properly arranged calls with an attorney. NCIC customer service: (888) 686-3699. Rates can change — check current pricing before adding a large balance.

Section 6

Mailing Instructions

San Jacinto County uses digital mail. Personal letters and photos do not go to the jail in Coldspring. They go to NCIC’s processing center in Longview, where they are scanned and delivered to the kiosk in the person’s cell. The originals are destroyed after scanning and are never returned — do not send anything you want back.

Mailing address for personal mail

[Full name of incarcerated person]
SO# [booking number]
San Jacinto County Jail
PO Box 591
Longview, TX 75606

Rules

  • Include the person’s name, their SO#, and your return address.
  • Paper no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches, no more than 5 pages, written on the front side only.
  • One photo per mailing. If you send more than one, the entire letter is returned and nothing is delivered.
  • No magazines, newspapers, bulk mail, or books at the Longview address.

Legal mail, medical mail, books, and magazines

Legal and medical mail, books, magazines, and newspapers must be sent to the jail itself, following the Sheriff’s Office mail guidelines. Call (936) 653-4367 for the current rules and mailing address before sending.

These rules come from an NCIC mail notice posted on the Sheriff’s page of the county website in 2024. Confirm with the jail that they are still current.
