Find Someone in the Brazos County Jail

The county runs a public Brazos County Jail Record Search. It is the fastest way to confirm that someone is in custody in Brazos County.

How to search

Open the search, choose Jail Records, and search by name. A date of birth or the SO number will narrow the results. Very recent bookings can take a few hours to appear.

A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.

What you may need

• The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
• Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
• Their SO number — the Sheriff’s Office number that identifies the person. You will need it for mail and for commissary deposits.

Confirm the identity

Before you send money or mail, match the full name and date of birth on the record to the person you are looking for. Do not rely on the name alone.

Booking information and charges

The jail record usually lists the booking date, the charges, and the bond amount. For court dates and case status, use the county’s Judicial Records Search or call the Detention Center. Bond options are explained on the Sheriff’s Bond Information page. An arrest is not a conviction.

Visitation Information

All visits at the Brazos County Detention Center are video visits, scheduled online through Smart Communications. You can visit from an on-site video terminal at the jail or remotely from a phone, tablet, or computer.

Hours

• Scheduled video visits: every day, 1:00–4:00 p.m. and 5:00–7:00 p.m.
• Video on Demand: every day, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

On-site video visits at the jail are free. Video on Demand and remote visits from home cost $0.20 per minute. There is no limit on the number of visits.

Rules

• A maximum of 2 visitors per visit — one adult and one child.
• Every visitor, including minor children, must present a current, valid government-issued driver license or ID card.
• The inmate’s visitation list must show each visitor’s name exactly as it appears on their ID, plus a correct street address.
• The facility dress code applies to remote visits as well as on-site visits.

Visitation hours and per-minute fees are set by the jail and the provider and can change. Confirm the current schedule with the Detention Center at (979) 361-4800 before you schedule.

Commissary and Money Deposits

Money for commissary goes into the person’s account through Tiger Commissary. Money for phone calls and messages is separate and goes through Smart Communications (see Section 5).

Deposit methods

• Online through Tiger Commissary — choose Texas and Brazos County, then enter the person’s name and SO number.
• Money orders are handled through the Inmate Trust Fund. Call (979) 361-4808 for how to send one — money orders are not accepted at the Smart Communications mail address.

Telephone Calls and Communication

Inmate telephone service, electronic messaging, and video visits at the Brazos County Detention Center are all provided by Smart Communications through its SmartInmate platform.

Set up an account

1. Create an account at SmartInmate.com, or call the customer service center at (888) 843-1972.
2. Add the incarcerated person using their name and SO number.
3. Add funds to your account to pay for calls and messages.

Messages and photos

Electronic messages and photos are delivered to the person’s in-dorm kiosk or tablet, at about $0.20 per message. This is usually the fastest way to reach someone inside.

Call and message rates are set by the provider and can change. Check the current pricing in your SmartInmate account before adding a large balance. Calls and video visits may be monitored and recorded, except privileged attorney communication.

Mailing Instructions

Personal letters to the Brazos County Detention Center — everything except legal mail — are processed off-site by Smart Communications and delivered to the person on an inmate kiosk or tablet. Do not send personal letters to the jail’s street address.

Only publications shipped directly from a distributor, with approved content, are accepted. Legal mail is accepted at the Detention Center address above.

Any mail sent to the wrong address is returned to sender. The Detention Center does not accept property for inmates except properly labeled prescription medication and necessary medical devices.
