Bell County Jail Information

The Bell County Jail is run by the Bell County Sheriff’s Department. It operates as two buildings in Belton — the Central Jail and the Loop Jail. A person may be held in either one and moved between them; the online inmate list shows where someone is currently housed.

Find Someone in the Bell County Jail

The Sheriff’s Department posts a public list of inmates through its online Inmate Inquiry system. The county says the list is updated hourly. It is the fastest way to confirm someone is in custody in Bell County.

How to search

Search by Name. You can also narrow results with a Booking Number, a booking date range, or by checking “In Custody.” Very recent bookings can take a few hours to appear on the list.

A name is enough to start a search, and a name plus date of birth is enough to identify the right person. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.

What you may need

• The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
• Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
• Their booking number — Bell County’s identifier for the person. You will need it for mail and for commissary deposits.

Confirm the identity

Before you send money or mail, match the full name and date of birth on the record to the person you are looking for. Do not rely on the name alone.

Booking information and charges

Each record usually lists the booking date, the charges, and the bond amount. For court dates and case status, contact the jail at (254) 933-5402 or check Bell County court records. An arrest is not a conviction.

Visitation Information

Visits at the Bell County Jail are video visits, run by Smart Communications. You can visit from home on a phone, tablet, or computer, or schedule an on-site video visit at the Loop Jail. You must be on the inmate’s approved visitation list.

Visit from home (remote video)

Remote visits run 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., 7 days a week, with no weekly limit, and they do not count against in-person visitation. Create a free account with Smart Communications, add the incarcerated person, and schedule your visit.

On-site video visits

On-site visits at the Loop Jail are also scheduled through Smart Communications. Under the county’s Visitation Plan, on-site visits are generally limited to three visits per week, 20 minutes each. The inmate chooses a visitation list of up to three approved people (not counting attorneys, clergy, and military), and can change that list every 30 days. Minor children under 16 must be with an adult. Anyone released from the Bell County Jail within the past 30 days may not visit.

Identification and conduct

Bring a valid government photo ID. Dress appropriately; visitors and their belongings may be searched, and disruptive behavior can end a visit.

Commissary and Money Deposits

The Sheriff’s Department directs families to Access Corrections to put money on an incarcerated person’s account for commissary.

• Phone: Access Corrections customer service at (866) 345-1884.
• In person at the deposit kiosk in the jail lobby, if one is available.

What you must provide

Choose Texas and Bell County, then enter the person’s full name and booking number.

Deposit fees are set by Access Corrections and are shown before you confirm payment. Check the current amount at checkout.

Telephone Calls and Communication

Inmate telephone service, messaging, and video visits at the Bell County Jail are handled by Smart Communications through its SmartInmate platform.

3. Add funds to your account to pay for calls and messages.

Mailing Instructions

Effective June 20, 2022, personal mail to the Bell County Jail is processed off-site by Smart Communications, scanned, and delivered to the incarcerated person electronically. Do not send personal mail to the jail’s street address.

Required on every piece of mail

• Your full name and complete return address.
• The person’s full name and their booking number.

Books and publications

Books are accepted only if shipped directly from the publisher — no Amazon, no Barnes & Noble, no used books. No more than five books per month. Nothing with metal staples or spiral binding. No hardback or oversized books. No subscription cards or duplicate copies. Only one Bible or Quran. Other religious material is accepted only when sent by a religious organization and stamped by it, with no multiple copies.
