Denton County Jail Information

The Denton County Jail is run by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office at one jail complex in Denton. It serves Denton, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Little Elm, and the rest of Denton County. The Sheriff’s Office handles inmate services mainly through its online records search and its service providers rather than a public jail phone line.

Find Someone in the Denton County Jail

Denton County’s Public Access system has a Jail Records Search and a Jail Bond Records Search. It is the fastest way to confirm that someone is in custody in Denton County.

How to search

Open the page and choose Jail Records, then search by name. Narrow the results with a date of birth or the booking / ID number. Very recent bookings can take a few hours to appear.

A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.

What you may need

• The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
• Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
• Their booking / ID number. It must be printed on any mail you send and used for every deposit.

Confirm the identity

Before you send money or mail, match the full name and date of birth on the record to the person you are looking for. Do not rely on the name alone.

Booking information and charges

The Jail Records Search shows the booking date and charges; the Jail Bond Records Search shows bond amounts. For court dates and case status, use the county’s judicial records search. An arrest is not a conviction.

Visitation Information

All visits at the Denton County Jail are video visits through HomeWav. Every visitor must register online with HomeWav first, for either a remote visit or an on-site visit.

On-site visits

Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Pod Jail Public Entrance on the Woodrow Lane side (127 Woodrow Lane). Two public kiosks. You must schedule at least 24 hours ahead, and the inmate has to approve the visit. Arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your time; if the room is full you may be asked to wait in your vehicle.

Remote (at-home) visits

Every day, 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Remote visits cannot be scheduled — register with HomeWav and log in so you show as online, and the inmate starts the call when they choose. Remote visits may be limited by the inmate’s classification and housing.

Rules

• Up to three visitors per visit, and no more than two adults per kiosk.
• All inmates get up to two free on-site visits per week unless they are in disciplinary housing.
• Bring a valid government photo ID for an on-site visit. Only schedule an on-site visit if you are actually coming — repeated no-shows can cost you your visitation privileges.

Commissary and Money Deposits

Money for commissary and money for phone calls go to two separate accounts with two different providers.

Commissary account — CorrectPay

• Online at CorrectPay.com (set up an account), or by phone at 1-855-836-3364.
• If the account balance is over $300, credit-card deposits are not allowed — the deposit must be made in cash at the facility.

Phone (debit) account — Smart Communications

Add funds at SmartInmate.com or by calling customer support at 1-727-349-1561. You must create an account first.

You will need the person’s name and booking / ID number for either account.

Deposit fees are set by the providers and are shown before you confirm payment. Check the current amount at checkout.

Telephone Calls and Communication

Inmate telephone service and electronic mail at the Denton County Jail are provided by Smart Communications through its SmartInmate platform.

Set up a phone account

1. Create an account at SmartInmate.com.
2. Add the incarcerated person using their name and booking / ID number.
3. Add funds to the phone debit account — or call support at 1-727-349-1561.

Video visits are handled separately, through HomeWav (see Section 3).

Call and message rates are set by the provider and can change. Check the current pricing in your SmartInmate account before adding a large balance.

Mailing Instructions

Personal (non-legal) mail to the Denton County Jail is processed off-site by Smart Communications, scanned, and made available to the incarcerated person on a kiosk. Do not send personal mail to the jail’s street address.

Print the inmate’s name and booking / ID number clearly on the outside of every envelope or postcard. Senders are encouraged to sign up for MailGuard Tracker to follow delivery and get a notice if mail is rejected. After release, a person can log in at SmartInmate.com to download their scanned mail, photos, and messages for free.
