Find Someone in the Ector County Jail

Ector County posts a public Jail Records search through the Odyssey Public Access portal. It is the fastest way to confirm that someone is in custody in Ector County.

How to search

Open the search and choose Jail Records, then search by name. Use Jail Bond Records to check bond amounts. Very recent bookings can take a few hours to appear. VINELink lets you register for a phone or email alert when custody status changes.

A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.

What you may need

• The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
• Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
• Their SO number (Sheriff’s Office Identification Number). You must include it on mail and on every money order.

Confirm the identity

Before you send money or mail, match the full name and date of birth on the record to the person you are looking for. Do not rely on the name alone.

Booking information and charges

The Jail Records search shows the booking date and charges; Jail Bond Records shows bond amounts. For court dates and case status, use Ector County court records or call the Detention Center. An arrest is not a conviction.

Visitation Information

Visits at the Ector County Detention Center are on-site and are handled first-come, first-served — there is no online scheduling. You fill out a visitation permit and give it to the receptionist when you arrive.

Days and hours

• Tuesday and Thursday only.
• Morning: 8:30–10:00 a.m. (register by 9:45 a.m.)
• Afternoon: 2:00–3:30 p.m. (register by 3:15 p.m.)
• Evening: 5:00–6:30 p.m. (register by 6:15 p.m.)

Visits are 20 minutes; visitors traveling 100 miles or more may request a 30-minute visit. Each inmate is allowed two visits per week, and a new week begins on Tuesday.

Who may visit

• Adults 17 and older need a valid government photo ID — state ID card, state driver license, military ID, current passport, or resident alien card.
• Only two adults per visit, or one adult and two children under 12. A child under 17 must be with an adult 21 or older (or have a valid state driver license).

Commissary and Money Deposits

Ector County does not use an online deposit website. You add money to an inmate’s account by money order by mail or at the lobby kiosk.

How to send money

• Money order to PO Box 331, Odessa, TX 79760. Write the inmate’s name, SO number, and the purchaser’s name on it. To count for that week’s commissary, it must arrive by noon on Tuesday. Cash is not accepted by mail.
• Lobby kiosk in the Law Enforcement Center main vestibule, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — takes $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills, and MasterCard, Visa, and debit cards.

Limits

An inmate may spend up to $75 per week on commissary. The Sheriff’s Office will not release an inmate’s account balance.

Deposit and kiosk fees can change. Check the amount before you confirm a kiosk payment.

Telephone Calls and Communication

The Ector County Detention Center’s inmate telephone provider is the T-Netix Inmate Telephone System. Inmate phones are on from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day.

Calls and rates

• A 30-minute local call is about $4.90 (subject to change).
• To set up prepaid calling, or to unblock a phone number so an inmate can call it, call (888) 610-7079. Give the facility address: 2500 S. Highway 385, Odessa, TX 79764.
• For international calls, inmates buy a $10 or $20 international phone card through commissary.

Call rates and fees are set by the provider and can change. Confirm the current pricing when you set up an account.

Mailing Instructions

Personal mail to the Ector County Detention Center is processed off-site by Smart Communications, scanned, and made available to the incarcerated person electronically. Money orders and legal mail go to a different address in Odessa.

Accepted: handwritten or typed letters, single printed photos (no Polaroids), and printed personal digital photos. Cash is never accepted. CDs, DVDs, and flash drives are held in personal property, not given to the housing area. Anything else is treated as contraband.

Money orders, cashier’s checks, and government checks go to this address (see Section 4). Since May 13, 2022, legal mail is opened and scanned in the inmate’s presence into an encrypted file, and the original is shredded in view of the inmate.
