The Hidalgo County Jail is the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Facility in Edinburg, run by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office (Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra). It serves Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco, and the rest of Hidalgo County.

Find Someone in the Hidalgo County Jail

Hidalgo County posts Jail Records and Jail Bond Records through its Case & Jail Records Search. It is the fastest way to confirm that someone is in custody in Hidalgo County.

How to search

Open the portal and choose Jail Records, then search by name. Use Jail Bond Records for bond amounts, and Criminal Case Records for charges and court information. Very recent bookings can take a few hours to appear.

A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.

What you may need

• The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
• Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
• Their ID number (booking number). You must put it on all mail and on every money order.

Confirm the identity

Before you send money or mail, match the full name and date of birth on the record to the person you are looking for. Do not rely on the name alone.

Booking information and charges

The Jail Records and Criminal Case Records searches show the booking date, charges, and bond amount. For updated court dates, use the case search or call the detention facility. An arrest is not a conviction.

Visitation Information

Hidalgo County offers on-site visits at the detention facility and remote video visits from home through NCIC. Every visitor must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list — the inmate builds that list at intake and can update it after six months, and must know your full name and date of birth to add you.

On-site visits — schedule by housing section

On-site visitation runs every day in a morning block (8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) and an afternoon/evening block (3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.). The day, block, and lobby you use depend on the person’s housing section — check the current Weekly Visitation Schedule on the county’s Detention page before you go.

Each inmate gets at least two 20-minute visits per week, with at least one in an evening or on a weekend. You may split the time with another approved visitor without pausing the clock.

Who may visit

• Visitors must be 17 or older. Anyone younger is a “child” and may visit only during Children’s Week — the first full weekend of each month, Friday through Monday — supervised at all times.
• Everyone 17+ must show a valid photo ID: a Texas driver license, DPS ID card, Election Identification Certificate, or License to Carry; a U.S. military ID, citizenship certificate, or passport; or any foreign government ID (including a Mexican ID). An expired ID plus a voter certificate or a utility bill in your name is also accepted.
• All visitors, bags, car seats, and strollers may be searched, and everyone passes through a metal detector.
• Leave phones, tablets, cameras, recorders, food, drinks, tobacco, bags, lighters, and any weapon in your car.

You will be turned away if you

are under the influence, refuse a search or to show ID, are on probation or parole, are a known gang member or associate, have an outstanding warrant, are directly connected to the inmate’s alleged crime, or have been booked into the Hidalgo County jail in the last 12 months. Dress code: no offensive images; shorts and skirts no shorter than three inches above the middle of the knee; no steel-toe shoes; shirts must cover the shoulders; nothing tight, sheer, or exposing the midriff, back, chest, or thighs.

Home video visits through NCIC cost $0.30 per minute. Visitation schedules and fees can change — confirm with the facility at (956) 383-8114, extension 2, before you travel.

Commissary and Money Deposits

Money for commissary goes into the person’s Inmate Trust Account, handled through Access Corrections. Money for phone calls, video visits, and messages is separate and goes through NCIC (see Section 5).

Deposit methods (Access Corrections)

• Online at AccessCorrections.com or the mobile app.
• By phone through Access Corrections.
• Lobby kiosk at the detention facility.
• Cash at a store — register with the Access Corrections cash walk-in network, get a barcode, and pay cash at a participating retailer.
• Money order (no personal checks) by U.S. Mail to the Inmate Trust Fund at the facility address (see Section 6), with the inmate’s name and ID number.

Telephone Calls and Communication

Inmate telephone service, messaging, and video visits at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Facility are all provided by NCIC Inmate Communications through one prepaid account.

Set up an account

1. Go to account.ncic.com (in Spanish, cuenta.ncic.com), or call 1-800-943-2189, available 24/7.
2. Add the incarcerated person using their name and ID number.
3. Add funds — one balance covers phone calls, video visits, and messages.

Rates

Calls are billed by the minute with no connection fee: local, in-state, and out-of-state $0.14 per minute; international $0.35; Cuba $0.75. Incoming calls are not accepted (approved inmates can receive voicemail), and three-way calls are blocked. Video visits are $0.30 per minute; messages $0.25 each; picture messages $0.35 each, delivered instantly with no limit on how many.

Call and message rates are set by the provider and can change. Check the current pricing in your NCIC account before adding a large balance.

Mailing Instructions

Send letters to the incarcerated person at the detention facility. Put the inmate’s full name and ID number on the envelope, and your full name and return address.

All incoming mail is opened and inspected. The Sheriff’s Office does not publish a detailed mail policy online, so before you send photographs, greeting cards, books, magazines, or anything unusual, call the facility at (956) 383-8114 to confirm what is currently allowed. As a rule, books and publications must be shipped directly from a publisher or bookstore, and cash is never accepted.

Sending money

Money orders (no personal checks) for the trust account go to the Inmate Trust Fund at the address above, with the inmate’s name and ID number — or deposit online through Access Corrections (Section 4). NCIC electronic messaging (Section 5) reaches the person faster than mail.
