The Nueces County Jail is operated by the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office (Sheriff J. C. Hooper). People are held at the main jail in downtown Corpus Christi or at the McKinzie Jail Annex; the visitation schedule below covers both.

The county site does not publish a direct jail booking or information line. Families often reach the jail information desk at (361) 887-2300, but that number is not listed on nuecesco.com — confirm it with the Sheriff’s Office at (361) 887-2222.

Find Someone in the Nueces County Jail

Nueces County uses JailATM.com (operated by Tech Friends) for its inmate list. It is where the Sheriff’s Office tells families to look up an incarcerated person and their inmate ID number.

How to search

Open JailATM.com, choose Nueces County, and search by name to find the person and their ID number. A very recent booking can take a few hours to appear — if you cannot find someone, call the Sheriff’s Office at (361) 887-2222. Register with the Texas VINE system for a call or email alert when custody status changes.

A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.

What you may need

• The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
• Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
• Their Nueces SID number, which the record shows once you find them.

Visitation Information

Visits at the Nueces County Jail are on-site. You must be on the incarcerated person’s approved visitation list, and the time slot depends on their last name and housing unit. The schedule below covers the main jail and the McKinzie Annex.

General population — by first letter of the last name

• Saturday: A–L 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; M–Z 1:00–2:30 p.m.
• Sunday: M–Z 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; A–L 1:00–2:30 p.m.

Special housing schedules

• Maximum-security housing: Saturday & Sunday 9:30–10:30 a.m. (check in 9:00–9:30 a.m.).
• Units 5D, 5E, 5G, 5H, 5J, 4D, and 1P: Saturday & Sunday 3:30–4:30 p.m. (check in 3:00–3:30 p.m.).
• Units 4A, 4B, 4C, 4G, 4H, 4J, 4K, 4M, 4N, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5F, 5K, 5L (effective June 21, 2025): Tuesday & Thursday 6:00–7:30 p.m.

For the standard weekend visits, arrive and check in at least 25 minutes before the session ends.

Visitor rules

• You must be on the visitation list and show a valid government photo ID.
• You cannot visit if you have been incarcerated in the Nueces County Jail within the last 6 months.
• No one under 17 is allowed in the building unless with an adult. Only one child with one adult per visit, and that adult must be on the visitation list.
• Dress code: no shorts, hats, sunglasses, sleeveless shirts or dresses, spandex or other form-fitting clothes; skirts must be below the knee; no low-cut, backless, or see-through tops.
• No hand-carried items, gum, cigarettes or lighters, food, or drinks in the building.
• Once you walk out of the facility, that visit is over for the session. Jail staff may refuse visitation.

Visitation schedules change. Confirm the current schedule and get on the visitor list by calling the Sheriff’s Office at (361) 887-2222 before you travel.

Commissary and Money Deposits

Money for an inmate’s trust account is handled through Access Corrections. There are four ways to send it. The maximum single deposit is $300.

Deposit methods

• Lobby kiosk at the main jail (901 Leopard Street) and at the McKinzie Annex (745 N. Padre Island Drive) — open 24 hours. Takes cash ($5 bills or higher) and Visa/Mastercard credit or debit. Cash deposits carry a flat $4.00 fee; card fees run $2.95–$9.95 by amount.
• Phone with a Visa/Mastercard credit or debit card. Card fees run $3.95–$10.95 by amount.
• Online at AccessCorrections.com. Card fees run $2.95–$9.95 by amount.
• By mail — cashier’s check or money order only (no personal checks), made payable to the “Inmate Trust Fund,” C/O the inmate, with the inmate’s date of birth and Nueces SID number. Use black or blue pen. There is a separate P.O. box for these — get the exact address from Jail Commissary at (361) 887-2320 before mailing.

Deposits made by kiosk, phone, or online are available to the inmate immediately; a receipt reaches the inmate within 3–4 days. Money is not accepted at the jail information booth, at the Annex counter, or during visitation.

You will need the person’s name and Nueces SID number. Fees are set by the provider and can change — check the current amount before you pay. The Sheriff’s Office will never call to demand payment by phone, card, or gift card.

Telephone Calls and Communication

Incarcerated people use the telephones on their housing floor to call out; they cannot receive incoming calls. Electronic messages and photos can be sent through JailATM.com.

Setting up phone calls

The Nueces County Sheriff’s Office does not name the inmate telephone provider on its website. To set up an account so you can receive calls, call the Sheriff’s Office at (361) 887-2222 and ask which telephone company serves the jail and how to open a prepaid account. If they direct you to an online provider, create the account on that provider’s own site.

Calls from a jail are recorded and monitored, except properly set-up attorney calls. Rates and fees are set by the telephone provider and can change.

Mailing Instructions

All non-legal, non-commercial mail is handled electronically. Send it through JailATM.com, or mail it to the scanning vendor’s P.O. box — not to the jail. The vendor scans it, delivers it to the person on a kiosk or tablet, and destroys the original.

Rules

• The inmate’s full name and ID number must be clearly printed on the outside of every envelope or postcard, or mail can be lost or misdirected. Find the ID number at JailATM.com.
• Original letters and photos are scanned and then destroyed — they are not returned.
• Electronic letters and photo attachments sent through JailATM.com reach the person the fastest.
