Cameron County Jail Information

The Cameron County Jail is run by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division (Sheriff Manuel “Manny” Treviño). The county operates several facilities — the main one is the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito. A person may be held at any of them and moved between them; the online inmate list shows where someone is currently housed.

The Sheriff’s Jail Division contact page currently lists the Carrizales-Rucker address as 7300 Old Alice Road, while the county’s written mail policy uses 7100 Old Alice Rd. Use the address on the inmate’s record and confirm by phone before you send mail.

Find Someone in the Cameron County Jail

The Sheriff’s Office posts a public Cameron County Inmate List. It covers people held in the Cameron County jails now and within the last seven days; it does not include federal prisoners or detainees.

How to search

Type a name into the search box. The list shows the booking date, defendant name, booking number, SO number, and the charges with bond amounts.

A name and date of birth are all you need to identify the right person. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.

What you may need

• The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
• Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
• Their SO number (inmate ID). You will need it for mail and for money deposits.

Confirm the identity

Before you send money or mail, match the full name and date of birth on the record to the person you are looking for. Do not rely on the name alone.

Booking information and charges

The inmate list shows the charges and bond amounts. If someone is not on the list, or you need court dates and case status, call the Detention Center at (956) 554-6701. An arrest is not a conviction.

Visitation Information

Visits at the Cameron County Jail are non-contact. You must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list before you come. Remote video visits from home are available through NCIC.

Days and hours

Visitation days and times are set by the Sheriff and change from time to time, so they are posted at the facility rather than online. Each inmate is allowed at least two 20-minute visits per week, with at least one in an evening or on a weekend. Call the Detention Center at (956) 554-6701 for the current schedule and to confirm you are on the visitor list.

Rules

• Visitors 18 and older must show a valid government photo ID — Texas driver license, Texas DPS ID, passport, military ID, U.S. immigration visa / border crossing card, or matrícula consular.
• Anyone under 18 must be with an identified adult and stay with them during the visit.
• The inmate’s visitor card holds up to 5 adults; changes can be made only at the end of each month.
• Anyone incarcerated within the 6 months before the visit will be refused.
• No shorts, skirts, mini skirts, halter tops, transparent or provocative clothing, or handbags. No electronic devices (phones, cameras, recorders) in any visitation room.
• Attorneys may visit 7 days a week, 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., with a State Bar ID. Registered clergy may visit daily 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Home video visits through NCIC cost about $0.30 per minute. Fees are set by the provider and can change — check the current rate in your NCIC account.

Commissary and Money Deposits

Money placed on a person’s account goes into their inmate trust fund, which they use to buy commissary (the jail’s commissary provider is FS & More). Any balance is returned to them when they are released or transferred.

How to send money

By mail, the Sheriff’s Office accepts only money orders or certified checks — no cash, which is returned to sender. Make it payable to the inmate and send it to:

Family and friends may add money to the account while the person is in jail. Inmates cannot transfer funds to another inmate.

The Sheriff’s Office publishes only this mail-in method. Ask the jail at (956) 554-6701 whether the commissary provider offers an online or kiosk deposit option.

Telephone Calls and Communication

Inmate telephone service, video visits, and messaging at the Cameron County Jail are all provided by NCIC Inmate Communications through one prepaid account.

Set up an account

1. Go to account.ncic.com (in Spanish, cuenta.ncic.com), or call 1-800-943-2189.
2. Create the account and add the incarcerated person using their name and SO number.
3. Add funds — one balance covers phone calls, video visits, and messages.

Calls are billed by the minute with no connection fee. Incoming calls are not accepted (approved inmates can receive voicemail). Three-way calls are not allowed. Messages cost about $0.25 each, picture and video messages about $0.35 each, and home video visits about $0.30 per minute, delivered instantly with no limit on how many.

Call and message rates are set by the provider and can change. Check the current pricing in your NCIC account before adding a large balance.

Mailing Instructions

Letters go directly to the person at the facility where they are held. Your name and return address must be on the envelope, or the letter is returned to the post office. Packages are not accepted.

What cannot be sent

No glued, taped, or laminated items; no glitter, stones, string, wire, staples, paper clips, or stickers; no clothing, pens, pencils, paint, or coloring pages; no blank paper or envelopes; no stamps or labels; no newspaper or magazine clippings; no internet or computer printouts; no crossword or word-search puzzles; no oversized cards or pictures; no Polaroids or revealing/nude photos; no lipstick or perfume; no third-party mail. Money orders and certified checks go to the Inmate Trust Fund PO Box in Section 4, not to the jail.
