Travis County Jail Information
The Travis County Jail is run by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office (Sheriff Sally Hernandez). People are held in one of two facilities: the downtown jail and central booking in Austin, or the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle. Check which facility on the inmate search before you visit or send anything.

Find Someone in the Travis County Jail
The Sheriff’s Office runs a Find an Inmate search on its own website. It is the fastest way to confirm that someone is in custody, see their charges and bond, and find which facility they are in.
How to search
Enter the person’s last name (first and middle names narrow it down). Each record lists the charges with the bond amount under each charge, plus the jail ID / booking number you need for mail and money. A very recent booking can take a few hours to appear — if you cannot find someone, call 512-854-4180. Register with the Texas VINE system for a call or email alert when custody status changes.
A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.
Booking information, charges, and court dates
Charges and bond appear in the inmate search. For court dates and case documents, contact the Travis County District Clerk (felony) or County Clerk (misdemeanor). An arrest is not a conviction.
Visitation Information
There are two ways to visit: in person at the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle (face-to-face or at a video kiosk), and video visits from home through GettingOut. Everyone must be on the visitor list.
In-person and on-site video visits
- Where: Travis County Correctional Complex, 3614 Bill Price Rd., Del Valle, TX 78617.
- When: Wednesday–Sunday, 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. (closed on county holidays).
- How many: up to 2 visits per week (face-to-face or video kiosk).
- Scheduling: through ViaPath / GTL VisitMe. A face-to-face visit must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance; a video-kiosk visit can be scheduled ahead or taken as a walk-up at a kiosk.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early. Check-in closes 15 minutes before the visit start time.
Who can visit
- Everyone 17 or older needs a government-issued photo ID.
- Anyone under 17 must always be with a parent or guardian.
- Two visitors per visit — three if children under 12 are included.
- No food or beverages in the visitation area.
Dress code: no transparent clothing, tube tops, shorts shorter than fingertip length, or skirts above the knee. A dress-code violation means the visit is denied.

Commissary and Money Deposits
You need the person’s full name, date of birth, and jail ID / booking number for every deposit. Find those on the inmate search.
Ways to send money
- Western Union — online, by phone at 800-634-3422, or in person (find a location, 800-325-6000). Credit/debit accepted; Western Union fees apply; deposits post the next business day. Use the 7-digit booking number followed by the last name (for example, 1234567Smith) and code city TCSOITF TX.
- Money order or cashier’s check, $100 or less, payable to “Inmate Trust Fund” — in person at the TCCC Finance Building #230, 3614 Bill Price Rd., Del Valle, TX 78617 (Monday–Friday 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., closed county holidays), or by mail to Inmate Trust Fund, P.O. Box 1368, Del Valle, TX 78617 (include the inmate’s name, jail ID / booking number, date of birth, and your name and return address).
No cash, no personal checks, and no money orders over $100. Credit and debit cards are not accepted in person.
Commissary and gift packages
Incarcerated people order commissary from kiosks in the jail using their Inmate Trust Fund balance. Family and friends can also order gift packages through Access SecurePak — up to $100 of product per week, delivered 10–14 days after the order is processed (not available if the person owes a balance on their trust account).
Money and commissary questions: 512-854-5319. Access SecurePak: 800-546-6283. Fees are set by the providers and can change. The Sheriff’s Office will never call to demand payment by phone, card, or gift card.
Telephone Calls and Communication
Telephone service is provided by ViaPath Technologies. You set up a prepaid calling account so you can control how much is spent on calls.

Attorney calls
An incarcerated person gets a free, local, 20-minute call to their attorney that is not recorded. Only one business phone number is allowed on the list. An attorney can have a client notified to call by leaving a message at 512-854-4666 with the client’s booking number, full name, and date of birth.
Calls from a jail are recorded and monitored, except registered attorney calls. Rates and fees are set by the provider and can change.
Mailing Instructions
Letters, cards, and other correspondence go directly to the person at the facility where they are housed. Every item must include their full name, date of birth, and jail ID / booking number, and a return address from the sender.

Books, magazines, and newspapers
Paperback books, magazines, and newspapers are accepted only when mailed directly from the publisher or a distributing warehouse to the housing facility, and only if the person currently has fewer than two books and two magazines. Inmates may not have more than two books and two magazines at a time — anything over the limit is returned to the publisher.
