The families of Jacqueline Pokuaa and Katie “Annette” Flowers filed separate lawsuits in 2024 over the October 22, 2022 shooting that killed both Methodist Dallas Medical Center employees.
Nestor Hernandez, who was on parole at the time, was at the hospital for the birth of a child when he fatally shot Pokuaa, a social worker, and Flowers, a nurse. A Dallas County jury later convicted Hernandez of capital murder, and he is serving life in prison without parole.
The civil lawsuits named Hernandez, the hospital system and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles among the defendants. Lawsuit allegations are claims that must be proven in court; filing a lawsuit does not itself establish liability.
