Five incarcerated people were involved in a stabbing during a religious service at the C.T. Terrell Unit in Brazoria County on May 30, 2026, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

TDCJ spokesperson Amanda Hernandez told ABC13 Houston that an altercation began during a religious service in the prison gymnasium and developed into a stabbing.

Three incarcerated people sustained puncture wounds. Two required treatment outside the prison, and TDCJ reported that everyone involved was in stable condition.

Officials had not publicly explained what started the altercation or identified the object used to cause the wounds. TDCJ said an investigation was underway.

The Terrell Unit is located near Rosharon and houses more than 1,500 incarcerated people. Confirmed information about injuries, lockdowns or changes to visitation should come directly from TDCJ as the investigation proceeds.
