Because of crowding, Montgomery County houses some inmates at the Waller County Jail under a temporary agreement. Those inmates still appear on the Montgomery County roster with a housing location of “Waller Co Jail.” See Section 2 for what that changes.
Find Someone in the Montgomery County Jail
The Sheriff’s Office runs an online Inmate Roster (its County Corrections Public Access Portal). It is the fastest way to confirm that someone is in custody in Montgomery County.
How to search
Open the roster and search by name. The public portal may ask you to create a free account before it shows results. A very recent booking can take a few hours to appear. Register with the Texas VINE system for a call or email alert when custody status changes.
A name and date of birth are all you need to find a record. You should not have to enter a Social Security number or other sensitive personal information to look someone up.
What you may need
- The person’s full legal name (try spelling variations and any former or maiden name).
- Their date of birth, to tell people apart when names are similar.
- Their Inmate ID number, which the roster record shows once you find them.
If the roster shows “Waller Co Jail”
That person is a Montgomery County inmate being housed at the Waller County Jail. A few things change:
- Visitation, mail, and commissary follow Waller County rules — check the Waller County Sheriff’s Office before you visit or send anything.
- Questions about charges, sentencing, or legal status still go to the Montgomery County Jail.
- Property stays in Montgomery County and is released through Montgomery County (the inmate must approve the release, which can take extra time).
- The person is still released from custody in Montgomery County.
Booking information, charges, and court dates
The jail does not assign or track court dates. For charges and case information, use the Montgomery County District Clerk’s public case index for felonies, or the Montgomery County Clerk for misdemeanors:

Visitation Information
Visits at the Montgomery County Jail are on-site, by appointment only. Walk-ins are not allowed. Each visit must be scheduled online at least 24 hours in advance.
Days and hours (normal schedule)
- Saturday: 8:00–11:00 a.m. and 2:00–5:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 8:00–11:00 a.m. and 2:00–5:00 p.m.
- Monday: 7:30–10:30 p.m.
- Thursday: 7:30–10:30 p.m.
Limits
- Each inmate gets one visitation opportunity per visitation period.
- Generally 2 visitors per visit; the jail notes up to 3 people may visit at once, but seating at the visitation station is limited.
- Children must be accompanied and supervised at all times by a parent or legal guardian.
Identification and screening
Every visitor 17 or older must show a valid government-issued photo ID (driver license, state ID card, or passport). All visitors pass through a metal detector. Secure all personal items in your vehicle — no cameras, cell phones, handbags, or baby carriers are allowed in the visitation areas.
Dress code
No revealing or see-through clothing; no sleeveless tops or dresses (shoulders must be covered); no spandex or tights without a skirt; nothing more than 3″ above the middle of the knee; no pants or jeans with multiple tears, rips, or holes; nothing with obscene, offensive, or gang-related images or wording. Failure to comply ends the visit.
Visitation is limited to a share of capacity and the schedule can change. Confirm the current schedule at (936) 760-5800 before you travel.
Commissary and Money Deposits
Money for an inmate’s account is handled through Access Corrections. There are three ways to deposit, and funds are available to the inmate right away. The maximum single deposit is $300.
Deposit methods
- Lobby kiosk at 1 Criminal Justice Drive, Conroe — open 24 hours. Takes cash ($5 bills or higher) and Visa/Mastercard credit or debit cards. Cash deposits carry a $4.00 service fee; card fees run $3.95–$10.95 by amount.
- Phone: 1-866-345-1884 (toll-free), Visa/Mastercard credit or debit. Card fees run $4.95–$11.95 by amount.
- Online at the Access Corrections website. Card fees run $3.95–$10.95 by amount.
Prepackaged commissary — Keefe Access Securepak
Family and friends can order prepackaged commissary items (snacks, ready-to-eat meals, drinks, some clothing) through Access Securepak. There is a $100 per week limit, separate from the inmate’s regular commissary limit. Orders can take up to two weeks to reach the facility; sales tax and shipping apply.

You will need the person’s name and Inmate ID. Fees and limits are set by the providers and can change — check the current amount before you pay.
Telephone Calls and Communication
Inmate telephone service at the Montgomery County Jail is provided by ICSolutions. The first time an inmate calls you, you get one free 60-second call and are then offered a transfer to a live Customer Care representative who can explain the options.

Purchased phone service expires after 180 days of account inactivity and expired time is not refundable; you can request a refund of unexpired time at any time. Mailing Instructions
Effective May 26, 2026, all personal mail (everything except legal mail) must be sent to an off-site processing facility, where it is scanned and delivered to the incarcerated person electronically. Do not send personal mail to the jail address.

Rules
- Every envelope must include the inmate’s full name and ID number, or it may be returned or delayed.
- Photos and drawings are accepted and scanned the same way.
- Anything that cannot be scanned is returned to sender — this includes paper larger than 8.5 × 11 inches and all non-paper items.
- Packages and certified mail are returned to sender.
- To have your personal mail returned to you, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. All physical mail is destroyed 60 days after it is scanned.
- Publications, magazines, and newspapers are no longer accepted, even directly from a publisher or retailer.

How long does it take to be released after posting bond?
Bonds and releases are processed 24 hours a day, in the order received. The jail cannot give a set time — processing a release can take several hours because of many factors, including waiting on court paperwork and checking for new warrants. Check the roster; once the person no longer appears on it, they have been released.
How do I get a message to an inmate or report a medical or safety concern?
