A former Texas prisoner was arrested in June 2026 after investigators accused him of mailing paper soaked with synthetic drugs into Texas prisons and correctional facilities elsewhere in the country.

Authorities identified the accused man as Deidrick Capers. Investigators arrested him June 2 at his Texas City residence following an investigation led by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice Office of Inspector General.

According to information released by TDCJ and reported by news outlets, investigators alleged that Capers disguised drug-soaked paper as legal correspondence. A search of his residence reportedly uncovered paper soaked with K2, approximately 30 grams of Suboxone, about 50 grams of liquid K2, drug-manufacturing materials, counterfeit labels and $4,225 in cash.

Capers was charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2, a second-degree felony. The allegations remain subject to the court process, and additional charges could be considered by other jurisdictions.

The case is especially relevant to families because legitimate legal correspondence is an important channel for incarcerated people. Investigations involving disguised mail can lead to increased screening and delays throughout correctional mail systems.
