Karmelo Anthony was transferred from the Collin County Jail into the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system on June 10, 2026, one day after a jury sentenced him to 35 years in prison for murder.
The Collin County Sheriff’s Office told CBS News Texas that Anthony was moved Wednesday afternoon to a TDCJ facility northwest of Houston. He had spent one night in the county jail following his conviction and sentencing.
A Collin County jury found Anthony guilty on June 9 in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a Frisco Independent School District track meet on April 2, 2025. CBS News Texas reported that Anthony’s attorneys filed a notice of appeal after the verdict.
The transfer begins Anthony’s placement and classification process within TDCJ. A unit assignment can change as the agency evaluates custody, medical and operational needs.
