COLDSPRING, Texas — A nurse who worked inside the San Jacinto County Jail has been arrested and accused of bringing illegal drugs into the facility, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office said.
Natasha Roach, 43, of Point Blank, faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and introducing a prohibited substance into a correctional facility, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release reported by FOX 26 on Oct. 5, 2026.
How the case came to light
The Sheriff’s Office said it received information that a nurse inside the jail might be bringing in illegal drugs. Its K9 Division investigated and searched the nurse’s office inside the jail, where a drug-detection dog alerted to a suspected illegal substance. Deputies said Roach was found with illegal drugs in her office.
Officials have not said what drug was found, whether any of it reached people held in the jail, or whether Roach was employed by the county or by a contracted medical provider.
“No one is above the law,” Sheriff Sam Houston said, adding that it is “deeply upsetting” when someone trusted to work inside the facility is accused of bringing drugs in.
An arrest is not a conviction. Roach is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Staff and contraband
Drugs smuggled in by staff are a recurring problem in Texas lockups. The Texas Observer has reported that at least 220 Texas Department of Criminal Justice employees have been charged with contraband-related crimes over the past six years, as Texas Prison News reported this month.
Texas Prison News will update this story as the case moves forward.
